Company History

The Altrax Group, which was founded some twenty five years ago, as a privately owned concern. The company has a history of Systems development going back to the nineteen thirties. This came into fruition in the founding of The R.P.S Group, which initially was involved in Office Systems and Supplies and soon thereafter came to specialise in labelling bar coding systems. In 1999 the company changed it's name to the Altrax Group.

 Altrax Group Divisions

i) RETRAX: specialising in Retail Label systems and solutions with an emphasis on hand held labelling. M & S Labels etc.

ii) BARTRAX: Bar-coding Systems and labels for industry incorporating a Bureau Service for the production of specialist labels e.g. M.O.D. Asset Inventory Labelling.

iii) MEDITRAX: The Meditrax Division of the company came into being in 1984/85 offering simple labelling solutions to Hospital Sterile Services in the form of a label offering cycle information allowing the recall of faulty batches should it be necessary. This gradually expanded to incorporate bar-coding systems and permanent tray marking.

By 1992 Meditrax had become the largest of the constituent division of the Altrax Group, and by 1993 the Research and Development Section had concluded that the area of prime importance in light of the looming European legislation was accountability i.e. Proof of Process. To this end the manual TTS system was conceived and developed as a closed loop system. This manual system, because of its very nature, imposes working disciplines and procedures geared to ISO9000, EN46002 etc. In the late nineties this was extended to incorporate washer disinfectors and compliance with HSC. 2000/032.

It was and remains our opinion that once a Sterile Service Department has the disciplines and practices in place to guarantee that sterile products (and only sterile products) reach the patient - then and only then, can one by means of computerisation and bar-coding introduce real time tracking as a furtherance of the existing manual system. To this end in 1994 development started of the Meditrax Traybax system. This system together with Tray Maker Plus are now fully matured. Meditrax is now actively investigating individual instrument marking (the facility for tracking is already incorporated in the systems).
